Series: Jesus
Sermon: Jesus the Generous One: Part 2
Scripture: Matthew 23:23-24

23  “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel."

INTRODUCTION: Money will either master you or you will master Money!

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (Matthew 6:24 NIV)

Prioritize Your Money:(Dave Ramsey)

  1. Tithe
  2. Expenses
  3. Emergency Fund (1K)
  4. Retire  Debt
  5. Invest

Put God First:

But see first the his kingdom, and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)

  1. Tithe = a tenth
  2. Tithing is returning the FIRST 10% of our income to God's house.
  3. The tithe belongs to The Lord... Lev. 27:30
  4. Tithing is giving God my First and Best so He can BLESS the rest.

Put God to the Test:

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (Malachi 3:10 NIV)

Tithing Statistics:
  • 5% of churchgoers tithe (Church Development).
  • 1.5 million people tithe out of the 247 million U.S. citizens identifying as Christians (Sharefaith).
  • 77% of tithers give more than 10% (Health Research Funding).

CONCLUSION: Today, choose faith over fear and begin to trust God with the tithe.
