Jesus: The King - Archie Callahan
Series: Jesus
Sermon: Jesus the King
Scripture: Luke 1:31-33 & 1 Timothy 1:15-17
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” (Luke 1:31-33)
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:15-17)
Tagline: The same yesterday, today, and forever.
INTRODUCTION: If you were to design a huggable, talking Jesus doll, what phrases would you choose to describe him?
Jesus came to proclaim the Kingdom of God. (Luke 4:43)
Jesus declared himself to be King. (John 18:36)
- Universal Kingship
- Humble Kingship
- Powerful Kingship
- Eternal Kingship
Jesus' eternal kingship gives me security in the present.
CONCLUSION: Jesus was King! Jesus is King! Jesus will be King forever!
