Scripture: 1 Peter 1:18-19 & Ephesians 1:7
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace ...
INTRODUCTION: Is Jesus' blood like money?
Redeem: means to buy back something that has been lost, sold or given away.
Redeemed from the curse of the law:
that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, (1 Peter 1:18)
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” (Galatians 3:13)
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:22)
What is guilt?
Guilt: a feeling of having done wrong or failed in an obligation.
What is shame?
Shame: a painful feeling that's a mix of regret, self-hate, and dishonor.
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God. -Hebrews 9:14
CONCLUSION: What money could not do Jesus did by shedding his blood!
